Cooper, Christopher:; Christopher Cooper was one of the twelve appointed gentleman assistants under John White on the 1587 Roanoke Voyage. He was granted arms along with the other gentlemen of the voyage on January 7, 1587 upon the formation of the company of the city of Raleigh. When discord rose concerning who ought to return to England to press for a relief voyage and provisions, Cooper, alone among the assistants, at first agreed to leave for England, but by the next day was persuaded to stay instead, resulting in Governor John White necessarily having to leave for England, from which he was unable to return until 1590.;
